Sarra Dennehy, Concord
My son, Liam, is 9 and in third grade at Broken Ground School. He also has Down syndrome. To say my husband and I are lucky to be his parents is a serious understatement. He is a beautiful, smart, loving, precious soul. After living in various places and finding out that New Hampshire is a wonderful place to raise a child with special needs, we decided to make Concord our home. We have met many wonderful people here, and Liam has had some amazing opportunities here.
Recently, Liam joined Concord's Challenger baseball team that started here three years ago. Last Sunday was our first game. The Challenger team is made up of kids with intellectual, developmental and physical disabilities, and it offers them a chance to do what most other kids have a chance to do - play baseball! It was so much fun for them! And the smiles!
The best part of all was seeing Concord High School's baseball team out on the field with the kids. Each Challenger teammate was paired with a high school player, and it was awesome!
The Concord High team was so professional, so helpful and so happy. It gives me such great hope for my son's future to know that there are kids who really care. And they got a lot out of being there, too, I would guess.
